
Although Jiří Trnka is considered to be one of the most important personalities of European animated film, and one whose contribution influenced the history of art, his work has not yet been presented in a complex and suitably representative form. The exhibition entitled Jiří Trnka’s Studio intends to repay the debt owed to such a significant artist. The exhibition, which will be displayed at the same time in the Gallery of the City of Pilsen and the Gallery of Jiří Trnka, has been created on the basis of an author’s concept of the son of Jiří Trnka, Jan Trnka.
Jiří Trnka’s Studio will become a comprehensive exhibition of original works by Jiří Trnka, relating to the key creative chapters of this famous native of Pilsen. This collection of unique, yet-to-be exhibited works of Trnka overlaps various art disciplines and genres. The exhibition covers Trnka’s film, illustration, painting, graphic, sculpture and theatre works. The collection will be thus consist of film puppets, film and technical scripts, theatre puppets, theatre designs, illustrations, images, graphics, sculptures, plastics, photographs, props and decorations.
Interactive elements of the exhibition will aim to give visitors a sense of the place where Tranka’s work used to be created, to give the feeling of being in touch with the creations and, at the same time, to offer an opportunity to try out the techniques in practice. The exhibition will also feature Kinoautomat with extracts from Trnka’s films.

The exhibition shows Jiří Trnka not only as an artist but also as a man. Based on the concept of memories and opinions of Jiří Trnka and his family, it covers Trnka's whole life story, including both serious and light-hearted moments.
